about

Morning (27:15), emerged out of a series of ambient recordings that Michael made in 1978/79 in the desert near Tucson, Arizona and in the seaside jungle village of Yelapa, Jalisco, Mexico. It was at the beginning of his travels with a portable recording system, collecting music and ambient sounds along the way. This was his first piece using the Serge synthesizer, provided to him by fellow Continuum musician Kevin Braheny.
Jewel (23:08) was recorded using the Eikosany, a micro-tonally tuned vibraphone designed and built by Erv Wilson. To create the ‘cloud like’ washes of tones, Michael faded in the microphone after striking the bars on the instrument. This recording was then slowed down to enhance the lush atmospheric sound. Singer Marsha Lee performed the vocals.
